Although I dislike exercise, I have found Celia to be very inspiring! I wasn't sure I could keep up the boot camp after the first night but with Celia's encouragement I kept coming back. I have enjoyed her insight and motivation. I will keep working out with Celia until I head back up north for the summer and boot camp will be the first activity I start once I return to
Florida in the fall. If Celia can keep me interested, she can do it for anyone. I highly recommend her. Celia, what will I do without you this summer!

Is it all about Calories In and Calories Out?

I read a comment recently that if you want to lose weight, it is all math; more calories expended than calories in, then you lose weight.  Technically this is true.  However there is bigger picture which led me to this topic today.  There are many reasons it is not always this simple, but let's pick one;

Let's start with when you eat?  If you eat a large meal right before going to bed, a few things are apt to happen.

First, your body is going to spend the first hour or so of your bed time, digesting the food you just ate, which will probably interrupt your sleep.

Second, during sleep, is when your body repairs itself, from the exercise, the toxins of pollution, etc., that have entered your body during the day, which it may not be able to do because your systems are metabolizing the food you just digested.  Plus your body is trying to rest.

How many times has this happened to you?  You are trying to relax but your brain just will not shut off and you can't sleep. This is a similar reaction that your body goes through when your body is trying to repair your muscles from the great workout you had, but also needing to metabolize the food you just ate. Our bodies are pretty amazing, but it is not going to be able to do both to it's full potential.  Not to mention, allowing you to relax and get a good restful sleep.

So even though you may only taken in 1200 calories and burned 1500 calories that day, as you can see, there are other factors; Your body may not be able to repair itself to it's full potential, so your  muscles may be sore longer, (possibly preventing you from working out  at your next scheduled workout), and you will not get the best rest possible, so the next day you may have less energy.

Some research shows that eating no later than 2 hours before you are going to go to sleep is a good goal.  If you start getting hungry, maybe it is your body's, way of telling you it is time for rest.

So just with this one example, you can see that it is not always simple math.
